ACCESS TO NEPAL
By Air: Nepal Airlines is the National flag Carrier of Nepal with flights to /from Delhi, Bangalore, Mumbai, KaulaLumpur, Dubai, Bakgkok, Hong Kong ,Osaka ,shangai and Singapore,London ,Paris,Frankfurt,Moscow.Other international Airlines operating from /to Kathmandu are Austrian Airlines(Vienna),Air China (Lhasa),AirNepal(Bangkok, Doha,Dubai,KaulaLumpur),Air Sahara(Delhi) Biman Bangladesh (dhaka),Cosmic Air(Delhi,Dhaka,Kollotta,Varanasi),Jet Airways (Delhi),PIA(Karachi),Qatar Airways (Doha) ,Royal Druk Air (delhi,Paro),and Thai Airways (Bankkok)
By Land:All Visitors entering Nepal by land must use no other entry points other than( 1)Kakarbhitta (2)Birjung (3)Belhiya,Bhairahawa(4)Nepalgung(5)Dhangadi and (6)Mahendra Nagar in the Nepal –India border and( 7)Kodari in the Nepal China border.The overland tourists entering the Kingdom with their vehicles must possess an international carnet or complete customs formalities.
Indian Nationals:Indian nationals do not require visa. However, Indians travelling to Nepal by air have to show upon arrival at entry point either a passport, voter’s identity card issued by Election Commission of India, or an identity card with photograph issued by the Central or State Government of India .Temporary identity card with photograph issued by Nepal-based Indian diplomatic missions for identification of Indian nationals will also be considered in case of exceptions. Children under 10 years need not show any identification .For student between the ages of 10-18 years, school/college photo ID card is valid.

Visa Formalities
-Free Visa for all tourists who visit Nepal only for 3 days.
-Free Visa for tourists of SAARC countries and People’s Republic of china.
VISA FEE
Single entry-US $30 days for 60 days
Multiple entries –US $50+US$30
Visa fee will be extended subsequently for 30 days upon payment of US $ 30 for a maximum period of 150 days in visa year (jan-Dec)
#Visa can be obtained either on arrival in Nepal or from Nepalese Embassy or Consulate or other Mission Offices abroad.
#one passport size photograph is required.

FOREIGN EXCHANGE: Foreign currencies must be exchanged only through the banks or authorized foreign exchange dealers. The receipts from such transaction are to be obtained and retained. Visitors can exchange money at the foreign exchange counter at airport upon arrival also. Indian currency Rs500 and Rs 1000 note is not allowed to be brought into Nepal and will not be exchanged and will not be accepted for transaction of any kind.
CREDIT CARDS:
American Express, Visa and Master Card are welcomed at major hotels, restaurants, carpet and curio shops and some departmental store and shopping centers throughout the country.
CUSTOMS FORMALITIES: All baggage must be declared and cleared through the customs an arrival at the entry .Personal effects are permitted free entry .A tourist may bring in dutiable goods, such as tobacco and liquors ,within the prescribed quantity free of duty .Carrying narcotics, arms and ammunition are strictly prohibited (Tel: 4470110/4472266).It is illegal to export objects over 100 years old(scared images, painting ,manuscripts.etc).Visitors can export souvenirs to their respective countries .The export of antiques requires special certificate from the Department of Archaeology, National Archive Building ,Ram shah Path ,Kathmandu near singha Durbar(Tel:4250686)
PASSENGER SERVICE CHARGE + TOURIST SERVICE FEE: Rs.1356 per person for departure to SAARC (South Asian) countries and Rs.1695 for departure to other international destinations.
DOMESTIC AIRLINES: Nepal Airlines has an extensive network of air service to major parts of the country .Besides Nepal Airlines, other domestic airlines (more than 18 in operation) provide regular and charter service to popular domestic destination.
POST, TELECOMMUNICATIONS AND INTERNET
The General Post Office located near the Dharahara Tower, maintains operating hours from 10 am to 5 pm, Sunday through Thursday and till 3pm on Friday. The Counters at the GPO are open from 7 am to 5 pm and provides stamps, postcards and aerogramme .Here one can register and insure letters and small packages, as well as exchange IRCs and have stamps canceled.
Express Mail Service (EMS): is available at the GPO as well as at Thamel, Basantapur and Airport postal counters.
Telephone, Fax, telex, and telegraph: Services are available at the Nepal Telecommunication corporation office near the stadium .Hotels and private communication centers cyber also provide distance telephone (ISD, STD) and internet services. Internet charge is Rs 10 to Rs25 per hour. One can also buy phone cards. The Country code for Nepal is 977 and area code for Kathmandu is 1
TOURIST POLICE:
The Nepal Police has a unit known as the Tourist Police trained specially to assist visitors regarding security and other travel related problems. Telephone 4247041 and an English –speaking officer on duty will take your call .You can also seek one of the officers stationed at major tourist sites. Look for the Tourist Police batch on their left shoulder. Tourist Police van is also on constant patrol.
GETTING AROUND:
Meter taxi are easily available it can be recognized by taxi sign and black number plates. Micro buses, cheaper than taxi are also available .Battery run EV tempos are also available .For short distance travel, rickshaws is very cheap .There are regular bus services within the three cities of the Kathmandu valley operating from Ratna Park (Old Bus Terminal).Similarly, scheduled bus services for outside the valley operate from the Gongabu Bus Terminal .In addition, one can also hire mountain bike or motor bike at nominal rates. A tip is not a compulsory .
FACILITIES: Nepal has every category of accommodation facilities .These range from the international standard star hotels and Resort to budget hotel and lodges. In other to have an assured quality service ,it is advisable to us the facilities and service of government registered hotels, lodges, travel agencies ,the licensed tour guides only and engage an authorized trekking guide or porter only through a registered travel/trekking agency.
Note: always carry torchlight along with you, any time load shedding might happen
Always buy a Mineral water from good shop before starting you travel
Don’t carry many cash along, you might get robed
Carry your camera whenever you travel
Always carry your city map while travelling
Carry your own mask ,you might not cope with the pollution
