Lack of security endangering national park
A conservation programme launched In Makalu –Barun National Park that is spread in sankhuwasabha and solukhumbu districts is becoming unsuccessful following the lack of security.
According to chief of the park, the poaching of rare wildlife is happening in that area due to lose security .The park which is spread in 2330 sq km , covers 10 VDCs of Sankhuwasabha and 12 VDCs of Solukhumbu. Not only poaching but also massive deforestation in the park has increased by 30 percent this year as compared to the last year due to light supervision and lack of security.
It is said that around 20 species of wild animals such as musk deer, jharal and salak endangered list are being poaching every year taking advantage of open Nepal- China border.According to the park employees, last year alone 17 musk deer were killed in Tamku area using various explosive devices and traps.
