Less export due to lack of international Logo in Wooden products
The National Plant Quarantine Office here certifies the exportable products but the exporters are still bound to bear extra charges at the transit point due to the lack of international logo in wooden products .According to the exporter, they have to pay extra charges at transit as we do not have our own logo registered at the international level. And due to extra charge, the price of our products goes up in the international market.
Nepali Woodcraft is mainly exported to European countries and the United States .The US is very strict about fumigation of wooden products it imports. Fumigation is method of pest control that completely fills an area with gaseous pesticides, or to suffocate or poison pests within. Methyl bromide is the most widely used fumigant for the treatment of logs and solid wood packing materials. And due to lack of international standard logo for the wooden products ,the export of woodcarving is down by 70 per cent.
